Witham scored both their goals in the first eight minutes of Saturday's game but even before then they had had a couple of scares.

Straight from the kick off Egham's Steve Wilmore was put through but shot wide when he looked certain to score and Aaron Nicholl then also shot wide for the home side.

Yet the game was still only four minutes old when Witham took the lead.

The ball was cleared out of defence and over the home defenders and leading goalscorer Glen Driver flighted the ball over Egham goalkeeper Trevor Jones and into the net.

Four minutes later Driver took advantage of a bad back pass and nipped in to shoot past Jones.

They were two fine opportunist goals and for a while the game was all action with Nicholls and Clayton Whittle both shooting wide for the home side.

Witham went close to netting a third goal when a cross from Ben Farmer was just out of reach of three players homing in.

Both defences were kept busy as the game went from end to end with young Andy Walton a tower of strength for Witham and he did particularly well when he robbed Nicholls of the ball when he was about to shoot.

Egham pulled a goal back two minutes before half-time when Witham failed to clear a long cross and it was put back across and headed home by Whittle.

There was no further scoring in a hard fought second half with Witham looking the stronger with some stout defending and good build ups but always failing at the final pass that went astray.

Witham travel to play Hertford Town on Saturday in a Ryman League fixture with their next home game being against Ashford Town on Saturday week (March 17).

Witham Town Reserves beat visitors Baldock Town Reserves 4-1 on Saturday, while Witham Under 18's beat visitors Heybridge Swifts 4-3 at Spa Road on Sunday.
