John McGreal is the latest Ipswich Town star to sign a new long-term contract at Portman Road.

The defender, a hero of last season's promotion campaign, has put his name to a deal which ties him to the Blues until 2004.

McGreal follows Jamie Clapham and Wayne Brown who signed new contracts last week.

Town boss George Burley said: "John has been in tremendous form this season and proved himself to be one of the most accomplished defenders in the Premiership

"After playing in the First Division with Tranmere for most of his career, he has surpassed everybody's expectations by the quality he has shown this season."

Jim Magilton was expected to plead guilty when he attends a personal hearing with the FA in London yesterday (Thursday).

The midfielder had been hauled before the authority after making comments to referee Andy D'Urso at the end of last month's defeat at Chelsea.
