Saturday sees Brentwood cruiserweight Garry Delaney challenging British champion Bruce Scott for his title at York Hall, Bethnal Green.

Scott could hold a psychological advantage over Delaney having beaten John Keeton to win the British title - Delaney lost to Keeton on a split decision in January 1999.

Unsurprisingly, Delaney does not see it that way: "I'm fit and raring to go," he said, "but it will be a tough fight. Bruce is pretty heavy handed, but it's nothing I can't handle.

"There's even talk that we'll be fighting for the vacant Commonwealth title as well, but that's still to be confirmed."

Delaney has shown he can handle himself against strong opponents - his gruelling victory over tough Havering-atte-Bower Southern Area champion Dominic Negus a few months ago being a case in point.

Although he once held the light heavyweight version of the Commonwealth championship, Delaney's hunger remains undiminished and he is keen to add win number 28 to his 32 fight record.

The National Schoolboy Championship finals are being held this Friday and Saturday at Barking Broadway Theatre. The action begins at 7pm on Friday, 2pm on Saturday. Tickets, costing £15 circle, £10 stalls, will be available on the door.
