Chelmsford City have made an audacious bid for former fans favourite Ian Cambridge, who has not been starting regularly for Dr Martens League Premier Division side Cambridge City.

A former Player of the Year, Cambridge left City in the summer of 1999 because he wanted premier division football and linked up at the Milton Road club where the manager is Chris Tovey, a former City player/coach.

Currently under contract at Cambridge City it means that City will have to pay a transfer fee for his services if they can persuade the former striker to return and help City gain promotion.

Coming back?: Ian Cambridge.
