Chris Makin is for the second time in a week plotting the downfall of Aston Villa after completing his £1.25 move to Ipswich Town.

The right-back, signed from Sunderland, helped the Black Cats secure a point against John Gregory's troops in Monday's 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light.

Now, after agreeing personal terms and undergoing a medical, the 27-year-old has been pitched straight into the Blues' squad to face Villa on Saturday.

Manager George Burley said: "We're very pleased to secure the acquisition of a proven, quality player.

"He's a very accomplished defender who is quick, strong and has a great asset of being a good passer with either foot.

"I'm sure Chris can fit in well to our style of play and will prove to be a tremendous acquisition in coming seasons."

Makin, who has signed a three-year contract, added: "I had four great seasons at Sunderland but it's time for a new challenge.

"I've always admired the way Ipswich play football and I look forward to being part of their continuing success."
