Chelmsford Athletics Club's Catherine Howe recently competed at the Norwich Union AAA Under 17 Championships at the National Indoor Arena, Birmingham.

She finished fourth, just outside the medal positions, with a jump of 1.65 metres which equals her personal best.

With the second and third placed girls also only clearing 1.65m, Catherine was even more unlucky to be placed fourth on count back only.

With this being the first major championship of the season all augers well for Catherine who is hoping to qualify to represent Essex in the English Schools Track and Field Championships at Exeter later this year.

Howe competed in her first English Schools last year, gaining invaluable experience by finishing sixth with a jump of 1.65m.

Howe's coach, GB International Stuart Ohrland, is confident that she will break her personal best this season and could be in line for honours at the English Schools.

Ewan Graham, also coached by Stuart Ohrland, and of Chelmsford A.C. finished a creditable ninth in the Under 17 mens high jump with a leap of 1.78m.
