The Jock Wadley Memorial Road Race, due to be staged yesterday (Sunday), was called off due to the foot-and-mouth epidemic.

Colchester Rovers, who organise the event - one of the largest in Essex - took the decision to cancel on Friday after an outbreak of the disease was reported at Wick Farm, Layer de la Haye.

The farm is just 300 metres from the planned race finish line.
