Chris Makin refused to be downbeat after kicking off his Ipswich Town career with defeat at Aston Villa.

The Blues were doubled for the first time this season after Julian Joachim struck with a two-goal salvo to overturn Alun Armstrong's fortuitous opener.

But, despite finishing on the losing side, the former Sunderland right-back has seen enough to know he made the right move in joining Town.

He said: "We might have lost but it was still a memorable game for me and I didn't think I did too badly.

"After the way we played in the first half the points seemed there for the taking. It was just unfortunate we didn't get the second goal our play deserved."

Makin, signed for £1.25 million on Wednesday, added: "I've been very impressed by what I've seen so far and I thoroughly enjoyed playing for Ipswich.

"The spirit was always wonderful at Sunderland and Ipswich seem to have a similar camaraderie in the dressing room."

Hermann Hreidarsson echoed the sentiments of manager George Burley in claiming his side threw away the points.

The towering defender said: "It was very disappointing because we gave away two very sloppy goals."

Hreidarsson has been selected for Iceland's World Cup qualifier with Bulgaria. Matt Holland has been called-up for the Republic of Ireland's date with Cyprus.

Ipswich's FA Premier Reserve League match against Arsenal at Boreham Wood, scheduled for tonight (Monday) has been postponed.
