A new village scheme to support carers has just been launched in Burnham.

The Maldon Carers have appointed Sue Palmer, carer support worker, to restart a group that was initially set up in Burnham in 1998 but because of various reasons was unable to continue.

Support groups will run in several villages throughout the district. Carers will be able to bring along the person they care for where they will be tended by professionals from Crossroads and enable the carers to have time for themselves.

Sue said: "We have found that the companionship and self-support carers develop plays an important part in helping to relieve the stress and isolation caused by the constant caring role.

"Unfortunately, our rural area presents problems for carers and many people in the Burnham area do not have either the transport or time available to enable them to travel to Maldon."

The next support group meeting in Burnham will be held on Thursday, March 22 from 10.30am to 2.30pm at St Mary's Church Hall, Station Road.

Lunch will be provided. If you have transport problems call Sue on 01621 851640 or Jenny on 851051.
