Residents in an area of Colchester were kept awake until the early hours of the morning by an illegal "rave" style party.
Police were called to the event in the early hours of Sunday after angry neighbours rang to complain about the noise.
A spokesman for Colchester police said officers had kept an eye on the party which was held in a disused railway social club on the corner of Brook Street and Magdalen Street.
"There were between 150 and 200 people there and we were called originally because of the amount of noise and disruption to people living nearby," he said.
But he said they did not try to break up the event because of the amount of people there.
"We kept an eye on proceedings to make sure they did not get out of hand and will be investigating the matter from now on," he said.
The matter will also be looked into by British Transport Police who are trying to find out who owns the land.
