Former Southend United manager Ernie Shepherd has passed away following a short illness.
Shepherd, who guided Blues' fortunes during 114 league matches between April 1967 and October 1969, was 81-years-old.
"This is very sad news indeed as Ernie was a very popular figure at Roots Hall," said a Southend spokesman.
"All of our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time."
