Clean-up campaigners have warned they would report anyone found fly-tipping in a small park used by children.

The Harwich Environmental Action Team also sent out a stern message to dog-walkers to clear up after their pets.

More than 20 people spent seven hours on Saturday removing rubbish from Allfields pocket park behind the fire station in Fronks Road, Dovercourt.

HEAT chairman Eileen Tyrer said she was amazed at what they discovered.

"We found an old mattress, television, shopping trolley, glass, tyres and even an old armchair," she said.

Mrs Tyrer said there was plenty more to do at the site and said HEAT members would be carrying out regular patrols at the site.

She was concerned about the amount of dog mess at the park.

"We want dog-walkers to pick up after their pets and we are also keeping an eye out for anyone fly-tipping, who we will have no hesitation in reporting to the authorities."

The entire effort was part of a national Whitbread Action Earth Project which HEAT had been chosen to take part in.
