Look out Kate Moss and Claudia Schiffer, there's a new face on the block.

Eight-year-old Lauren MacKenzie has been chosen as one of only three girls to star in a new Asda television commercial.

She was picked from about 30 youngsters who attended auditions in London to model the supermarket's George brand of clothing.

Lauren, of Mirosa Drive, Maldon, is on the books of Rascals child model agency and is no stranger to modelling or acting.

Her dad Charles said she did some work as a baby, but then stopped for a few years before deciding to go back to it. He said: "It was her decision to go for it as she loves dancing and wants to be an actress when she grows up."

Lauren, a pupil at Heathcote School in Danbury, was whisked by chauffeur-driven car today to film the Asda commercial at Shepperton Studios. It will be screened later this year.

She has previously done work for a children's activity catalogue, a major knitwear company and a pharmaceutical firm.

Apart from modelling, Lauren has also appeared as an extra in the forthcoming film Last Orders, alongside Sir Michael Caine, Helen Mirren and Bob Hoskins.

"We are so proud of her, she really has done exceptionally well," said Mr MacKenzie.
