Dog lovers are invited to take part or just watch at a new 'hands-on canine event' which is to take place at the Brentwood Centre in May.

All About Dogs is being hosted and organised by the award-winning Essex Dog Display Team, and is designed to promote responsible dog ownership.

The organisers say it has really captured the imagination of the 'doggie world' and looks set to be a great success. Show director Roy Dyer said he was receiving enquiries daily from both individuals and organisations involved with dogs.

The main commentary at the event will be by Peter Purves, who has presented BBC TV's coverage of Cruft's for several years. One of his tasks will be to introduce the many different breeds of dogs that will be in the grand parade in the main arena, and those in the demonstration ring. He will also be talking to dog handlers about their achievements.

In addition there will be an agility ring, gun dog displays, and the Inter-Counties Police Dog Trial, with 10 different county police forces already entered.

All the proceeds from a 12 class exemption show will be donated to Stondon Massey's Wallace Kennels Rescue Centre.

Pantomime star and former world heavyweight boxing champion Frank Bruno, a supporter of the kennels, has asked to be involved in the event.

Anyone is welcome to take part in 20 minute training sessions, from basic to advanced obedience, and there will also be classes teaching children how to handle dogs.

All About Dogs takes place on Sunday May 13, and the organisers would like to hear from anyone who is involved with dogs and would like to participate on the day

There is no entry fee. Exemption show schedules are available from Marian Wright on 01708 865178. For all other enquiries call 01277 226624.
