Two south Essex hospices have backed calls by a local MP for an urgent review of funding.
Rochford and Southend East MP Sir Teddy Taylor challenged Health Secretary Alan Milburn in the House of Commons claiming hospices were facing "serious problems" following a reduction in Government funding.
A national hospice organisation also revealed startling figures which highlight how more than half of hospices nationwide are in dire financial straits.
During question time, Sir Teddy urged Mr Milburn to review the financing of hospices.
However, although his comments were acknowledged, he did not receive any firm assurances for the future.
Bosses from Fair Havens hospice in Westcliff and Little Haven children's hospice in Thundersley, said they were pleased to hear about the latest calls.
Andy Smith, chief executive of Fair Havens, said: "Thanks to the generosity of local people, neither Fair Havens nor Little Haven is facing a financial crisis.
"Any increase in Government funding would help to relieve the pressure on our fundraising, which is a sustained effort for both hospices that needs to be planned and proactive."
