Charlie's Garden Army looks set to enhance part of the St Anne's area of Colchester.
In a project reminiscent of the BBC television programme, children from St Anne's Community School are spending the Easter holiday improving an area on their estate.
The youth project - the first of its kind in Colchester - involves a planting scheme and painting a railway bridge. It is designed to build self-esteem, responsibility, respect and citizenship in the youngsters taking part.
The project has been organised by residents, together with Colchester Council, Essex Police, British Transport Police, St Anne's Community School, Salvation Army, Church Army, Colchester Institute and St Anne's Residents' Association.
