The body of a man found by a walker on Good Friday has been confirmed as that of a missing pensioner.
Police yesterday (Tuesday) confirmed the body found in the backwaters of Walton-on-the-Naze was that of 70-year-old Cyril Woodhouse, who had been missing for two weeks.
Mr Woodhouse was last seen walking along Clacton seafront after going missing from the Edensor nursing and care home in Clacton on March 27.
Fears had grown for his safety as he had not taken his medication for diabetes and mental health.
A police spokesman said Hazel, his wife of 41 years and who lives at Southminister, was "very distressed and completely devastated by the news".
Police had been getting ready to increase their search over the Easter weekend, pleading for locals and day-trippers to help them.
The police spokesman said there was no evidence to suggest the death of Mr Woodhouse was suspicious and an inquest will be held at a later date.
