The line-up for Chelmsford's V2001 has just been announced.

And among the big names set to grace the stages at Hylands Park are Coldplay, David Gray and Texas.

There were fears the pop festival - one of the most popular in the country - would have been called off this year because of the foot-and-mouth crisis.

But organisers yesterday (Tuesday) confirmed it is full steam ahead by releasing full details of the line-up.

Texas, fronted by singer Sharlene Spiteri Black Eyed Boy, Say What You Want, I Don't Want A Lover and Summer Son, have played at the festival before in 1998.

It will also be a welcome return for triple Brit award winners Coldplay, who wowed the V2000 crowds.

Also playing at the two day event will be Foo Fighters, Placebo, The Charlatans, Muse, Toploader, Faithless, the Red Hot Chili Peppers (who beat even the festival organisers in announcing they were playing the V festivals), The Divine Comedy, JJ72, Doves and Shed Seven.

The festival takes place at Hylands Park on August 18 and 19, with a twin event happening in Staffordshire across the same weekend.

Tickets go on sale on Saturday, April 21 at 9am and are available from Way Ahead 0115 912 9000 or Ticketmaster 020 7344 4444.

A day ticket is priced at £38.50 and weekend with camping £76, without camping £66.

Bob Argus, Metropolis Music Festival director said: "We couldn't ask for a better site than Hylands Park. It's our sixth year there now and it just gets better every year.

"The foot and mouth situation has been high on our priorities in our planning for this year and we are in constant dialogue with the site management and Essex County Council.

"Everyone has their fingers crossed that the hot summer will help to clear the problem."
