Big-hearted rubbish collector Goldie Anderson celebrated Easter by having his head shaved to raise cash for sick children.

Goldie, of North Street, Rochford, came up with the idea to help terminally ill youngsters at the Little Haven children's hospice in Thundersley.

The 25-year-old said: "I just wanted to do something to help the children and this seemed something I could do. I just thought of it out of the blue and it seemed like a good idea at the time.

"It will seem a little strange as I had quiet a lot of hair and it was very thick. It will probably be a bit cold but I have told people I won't be wearing a hat. I will be braving all weathers."

Landlord George Wilson, of the Horse and Groom in Rochford's Southend Road did his bit to support Goldie by letting him have his head shaved in his pub.

Mr Wilson, 38, said: "I imagined Goldie would want a few drinks to give him some Dutch courage both before and after the shave.

"He told me he was doing it and at first I thought he was joking, but it turns out he was quite serious and good on him.

"I keep a jar behind the bar where people can put in a bit of change and that all goes to Little Haven.
