Vandals went on the rampage, damaging at least 15 cars in Clacton town centre.

Reports started flooding in to police last night (Tuesday) and this morning as the damage was discovered by owners of the vehicles.

PC Dave Lawrence, of Clacton police, said that most of the cars had windows and windscreens smashed in the spree.

"It is up to about 15 vehicles at the moment but reports are still coming in," he said.

"We are looking at hundreds of pounds worth of totally unnecessary damage."

PC Lawrence said the first incident appeared to have been in the Safeway car park at Waterglade Retail Park, in Old Road, just after 9pm.

Those responsible then moved on to attack vehicles in Anchor Road, Coronation Road, Alton Park Road, and Coppins Road. The last reported incident was about 10.30pm.

Anyone who can help is asked to contact police at Clacton on 01255 221312 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
