Marcus Stewart has a dream to be able to tell his grandchildren he played in the Champions League.

Ipswich Town's top scorer took his tally for the season to 21 as the Blues grafted out a 1-0 win against Newcastle United.

And, after burying the decisive goal from the penalty spot, Stewart said he'd have no fears about challenging the cream of Europe.

He said: "My ambition's always been to play at the highest level so to take on the likes of Barcelona at the Nou Camp next season would be a dream.

"No-one at this club is scared of playing in the Champions League.

"The lads here are very mentally strong and that's something which has been instilled into them by the manager.

"This club is used to having a goal at the end of the season and, although there's more at stake this year than in recent seasons, I think that will stand us in good stead."

Stewart now has 26 goals from 50 appearances for Town, but his cool spot-kick against the Magpies could prove the most vital.

He added: "I don't like setting myself targets for the season because you never know how many games you're going to play. "But I always aim to score once every two matches, so I'm very happy my average is slightly higher than that.

"It was a vital goal on Saturday because it was a game of very few chances, although it opened up after we scored."

Skipper Matt Holland said: "Newcastle caused us one or two problems in the first half but I thought we did much better after the break. We created a few decent chances and put them under a fair bit of pressure, so I think we did enough to win."

Town were in action at Middlesbrough this afternoon (Monday) with injury doubts about James Scowcroft (groin) and Fabian Wilnis (ankle).

Ipswich's Alan Ferguson has been named groundsman of the year in the Premiership.
