A cashier was assaulted in a raid on a Witham petrol station.
The robbery at the BP service station in Braintree Road happened just before 6pm on Monday evening when a man with distinctive dreadlocks walked into the shop on the forecourt.
A police spokesman said the robber assaulted the lone cashier while he was being served and stole an undisclosed amount of notes before running off towards Chalks Road.
The robber is described as black, in his mid-20s, slimly-built and about six foot tall. He was wearing a dark jacket and sunglasses.
Anyone who was near the petrol station at the time of the robbery, or who knows the identity of the suspect, is asked to contact Det Con Barry Johnson at Witham Police Station on 01376 501212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
