All bouts were well matched with clubs from Kent plus south and east London going into action against the locals.

Canvey had four winners from the five boxers on view. The Dainty brothers both recorded unanimous points wins with some skilful counterpunching.

Jon Begley and Tom Leonard used excellent footwork to also gains successes on points.

Shay Joyce and Craig Minter brought the crowd to its feet in a cracking youth contest with the latter, from Colchester, just pipping his Canvey opponent by a majority verdict.

Southend ABC's 16-year-old middleweight Gary Daley has reached the Great Britain ABA junior finals which are being staged at Crystal Palace this coming weekend.

He earned his place with an impressive points win over Northern Counties champ G Stevens in the semi-finals at Everton Sports Centre in Liverpool.

Southend coach Mike Bucke was pleased with Daley's showing and said: "He boxed cleverly and paced himself perfectly."
