Colchester MP Bob Russell was left shocked and shaken but unhurt after a head-on car crash in the town.
Mr Russell was returning home alone from a slide display on the history of the Hythe when the accident happened at about 9.15pm on Wednesday night.
He was driving from St Peter's Street through the traffic lights at the bottom of North Hill when his car was in collision with another car turning right into North Hill.
The 19-year-old woman driving the other car and her two women passengers, who had come to Colchester for a night out from a small village nearby, were all also unhurt.
Mr Russell, 55, said: "It happened in a split second. It was virtually a head-on collision but it could have been a hell of a lot worse."
It is the second accident Mr Russell has had at the junction. He broke his arm as a 14-year-old schoolboy when he was riding his bike down North Hill and was in collision with a lorry.
