It was a case of youth to the fore for Great Wakering Rovers at their Burroughs Park home on Wednesday night as the village side won their East Anglian Cup area final clash with Jewson League Ipswich Wanderers.

And the youngsters who came in did manager Eddie Nash proud by playing a leading part in helping Rovers through to the overall quarter-finals of the prestigious competition.

One of them, Daniel Ring, hammered Wakering into a fifth minute lead from Micky Munro's through ball, but a defensive mix-up allowed Danny Smy to level 10 minutes later.

However, two goals from another under-18 player, Dan Trenkel, just before the break saw Rovers in command.

Ben Miller reduced the deficit for Ipswich on the hour, but two great saves from the home side's youth keeper Lee Scott saw Rovers through to a home date with the winner of the Lowestoft v Dereham Town encounter.
