George Burley believes Ipswich Town fans have still to see the best of Alun Armstrong, their two-goal hero at Middlesbrough.

The Blues boss said: "Alun has done extremely well since joining us but he's still far from being the finished article.

"Before you sign any player you have to do your homework but not once did I think buying him was a gamble. His former managers have nothing but praise for him and his track record in terms of scoring goals is second to none.

"They were two excellent finishes and I couldn't have been more delighted for Alun. Things didn't work out for him at Middlesbrough but that's the way football goes."

Burley added: "I thought we were the stronger side in the first half but I changed things around because we weren't getting enough men forward.

"We got caught square for their goal but overall I thought we defended extremely well. To record nine away wins in the Premiership is a phenomenal achievement.

Boro boss Terry Venables was noble in defeat, despite his side being sucked further into the relegation mire.

He said: "Alun's done fantastically well. He's had a couple of horrific injuries so the fact he's bounced back is a credit to him.

"Ipswich are a very good side and they caught us cold twice after half-time."
