Leigh Lanham's excellent start to the season has delighted Arena-Essex.

Having broken his thigh back in March of last year there was always the strong possibility that he would struggle to regain his previous form which made him the track's top rider.

A month into Hammers' new campaign and it's clear that 23-year-old Lanham is on his way back to a full recovery.

"I've known some riders not come back from the type of injury Leigh suffered, but he is so determined," said team manager Peter Thorogood.

"The metal-work is still in the thigh and Leigh has told me that he aches after a few races, but I can see that he is gradually getting back to his best."

Lanham has yet to record a double figure return at Arena this season, but don't be surprised if that's no longer the case after tonight's Premier Trophy visit by Newport.

After tonight (Friday) Arena-Essex have another seven days off before entertaining the Isle of Wight.
