A review of all the taxi ranks in Southend will begin next month.

Southend Licensed Taxi Drivers' Association has called for an analysis of whether the ranks are in the right places for the public.

A date for a meeting between officers and leaders of the association was revealed at Southend Council's licensing committee.

Councillors have approved an application to move a taxi rank about ten metres along Weston Road to create some disabled parking outside the Lloyds TSB bank. It will now be formally advertised to see if there are any public objections to it.

Paul Sutton, chairman of the Southend Licensed Taxi Drivers' Association, said it was not fair to make public statements about the review until after the private meeting with officers.
