A Basildon school is set for a £531,000 revamp as part of a country-wide modernisation drive.
The Government awarded Essex County Council the cash to redevelop Swan Mead Infant and Junior schools which are being merged.
Pupils will turn out on Monday morning with Basildon MP Angela Smith for the opening of the joint school, Cherry Trees Primary, in Church Road.
The building plans, to be completed by September 2002, will include a new link corridor between the two sites, new IT area, space for special needs students, new library, classrooms and nursery.
It is hoped the building work will be completed at the end of the next academic year in September 2002.
