A THIRD road off Canvey may not be built for at least ten years if the public do not get behind ambitious road developments on the island, a tense public meeting has been told. More than 200 residents expressed anger at plans to put in one way systems and other changes at the meeting on Friday evening. However county highways bosses have said the plans, which also include widening Canvey Way and extending Roscommon Way, must have the public's backing if they are to win Government funding. The council needs to make a bid for Government cash for the scheme by July 1 however some residents claim the changes are being forced on them and that they will pave the way for more houses to be built on Canvey. *Full report in Monday's Echo
