Detectives trying to unravel an unsolved murder are to reconstruct the crime on television.

Karl Morris, 23, died from head injuries after a fight on Good Friday, 1999, but two years later police are no nearer to solving the case.

Mr Morris's family, including his sister Kerry, of Crown Street, Dedham, and grandparents Ramon and Irma, of High Woods, Colchester, are now trying to set up a reward for information leading to the conviction of his killer.

His mother, Frances, who he lived with in Abbas Walk, Great Cornard, Suffolk, said: "Karl's case is one of the last ones to be solved. There are so many unanswered questions, but hopefully the reconstruction will bring some results. We are trying to raise a reward with the police."

Mrs Morris will make an impassioned plea for anyone with information to come forward when the reconstruction is screened on Anglia TV's Crime Night programme, during the current series.

Mr Morris is believed to have been enjoying a night out with friends at the Queen's Arms in Great Cornard, but at the end of the evening tried to break up a fight which erupted outside.

He was attacked and died in hospital from serious head injuries the following day. Detectives are still trying to trace Stephen Mackay, 30, who was at pub at the time of the fight.

Former soldier and lorry driver Mr Mackay was well-known in Colchester. His brother, David, used to live in the town, and he frequented the local pubs.

He is described as 6ft 3ins tall, heavily-built with short brown hair.
