Colchester MP Bob Russell is calling for disgraced Lord Archer to be stripped of his peerage.

Mr Russell has added his voice to a motion calling for the ex-cabinet minister to lose his title.

Millionaire novelist Archer was jailed for four years yesterday after being found guilty of perjury and perverting the course of justice.

Commons backbenchers have already tabled a motion calling for jailed MPs to lose their seats.

Mr Russell said today (Friday): "It shouldn't be any different for peers. The rules are there foreverybody and people in the public eye are no exception.

"Regardless of who you are, if you are found guilty of deviating, you should be punished."

Planned House of Lords reforms could see powers to remove titles from jailed peers introduced.
