More than 1,000 spectators packed into Purfleet's Circus Tavern to watch Basildon Kick-boxing and Karate Club power their way to glory in a master event.

First prize for Basildon went to 13-year-old Lloyd Reddey who demonstrated impressive technique to defeat Aveley's Reece Rowell over three rounds.

Chris O'Connor also scored a Basildon victory. The 12-year-old was well on top during the first two rounds and recovered from a low blow to the body in the third to see off the challenge of Aveley's Alex Bateman.

Jim Luck, 29, had his second fight for Basildon against 22-year-old Stuart Keller.

And despite looking out of sorts in the first couple of rounds, Jim hit back to land a vicious left, right combination which handed him victory.

And Mark Peters, 29, marked his tenth fight for Basildon with a win against 27-year-old Londoner Kofi Mbunoo.

Finally, Ricky Judd, 17, beat powerful 31-year-old Noel Tierny, who had thrown down the gauntlet to the Basildon teenager at a previous meeting.

Ricky compensated for his inferior strength by utilising greater speed and sharpness to see off his senior opponent.

Basildon's next two shows are at the Circus Tavern on September 30 and Pitsea's Eversley Centre on October 27.

The club are also looking for new students and sponsors. For more information call Rob Judd on 07712 588701 or Chris Day on 07803 127271.
