Southend bowls club were too strong for their Rochford counterparts as they clocked up a 93-70 win.

And Pegasus were also defeated by Southend, who tasted success on all six rinks to triumph 118-88.

However, Southend crashed to a reverse at Hockley 78-60, with only skipper Dave Cane carding a win during a match contested on four rinks.

A heavy defeat was suffered at Essex County as Southend were soundly beaten 130-92.

Meg Disney proved she was no Mickey Mouse performer when her rink's 11-shot win sparked Rochford Ladies Bowls Club's 47-36 friendly win over South Benfleet.

Rochford won on all four rinks in a 78-52 mixed friendly win over BT Bowls Club, but the top honours went to Mavis Fisher's rink, who enjoyed a 14-shot victory.

Rochford Bowls Club were comprehensively defeated 125-94 by Orsett BC.

Both the ladies rinks were beaten and the only success was by the rink of Ray Townsend, Jim Elston, Brian Tolhurst and super stand-in Skip Granville Hicks, who was playing in this position for the first time.

Rochford Bowls club enjoyed a narrow 57-54 win overall in a friendly against Woodside - despite losing on two of the three rinks.

This was mainly down to the rink of Doug Rosewall,Alan Homer, Bob Lewis and skip Gordon Sellears, who won by 11 shots.

Rochford Ladies' run in the national Travelsphere competition came to an end with an overall defeat at the hands of the strong United Services Ladies Team.

The only success for the ladies was by Doris Stockley, who had a great win in the singles match against a very strong county player.
