Happiness began at home for Hockley's Greensward College when they hosted Rochford Festival of Sport's inter-schools competition.

They not only won the overall honours, but also captured glory in both the boys and girls competitions.

Individual sportswise, they took top honours in the netball, girls swimming, boys and girls soccer and the relay.

Sweyne Park were the tennis smash hits, while Canvey's Cornelius Vermuyden were the basketball stars. Deanes Sports College were the splash hits of the girls' swimming.

The six-school line-up was completed by Furtherwick Park, Canvey, and Appleton Schools, while the event was organised by Greensward's Tony Mescall.

Awards were presented by Rochford Sports Council chairman George Bailey and vice-chairman Joyce Murison.
