A merciless Kent side have condemned Essex to an innings defeat inside three days in their County Championship clash at Southend.
Essex were bowled out for just 114 this afternoon (Friday), losing by an innings and 132 runs.
The visitors had chosen to declare just before lunch today with a lead of 246 - a decision soon justified as the Essex batsmen again struggled to find their form at Southchurch Park.
Irani's men were dismissed on Wednesday for 107 runs, and in their second innings they fared little better, with only a slow 54 from Paul Grayson lifting Essex's battered spirits.
The defeat leaves Essex anchored to the bottom of the County Championship Division One.
Earlier today (Friday) the visitors had declared their first innings total with the score at 353 for 7, having started on 253-4 overnight.
Robert Key lived up to his name and delivered the key batting performance, scoring 123.
After only managing 107 runs in their first innings on Wednesday, Essex had spent Thursday in the field trying unsuccessfully to dismiss the visitors.
