Billericay Town fans are embarking on a couple of big fund-raising schemes for the new season.

They plan to issue £90 bonds in the hope of raising up to £7,500 to help towards ground improvements at New Lodge.

And the Supporters Club's merchandise for the 2001/02 campaign includes the brand new "Billy Bear".

"Billy" is a blue beanie bear who proudly displays the club crest on his front. There will be just 250 of these unique bears available - each with their own certificate - and are being sold on a first come, first served, basis.

Fans heard of these fund-raising plans at the supporters club's annual meeting where club manager Gary Calder told of his discussions with three top strikers in an effort to boost the first team's frontline talent for the forthcoming campaign.

The supporters are also busy signing up youngsters for their highly successful Town Juniors scheme under which under-11s can attend all 21 home Ryman League Premier Division matches for just £1 - provided they are accompanied by a paying adult.

The club start their pre-season build-up on Saturday week with visits to Great Wakering Rovers and newly-formed Enfield Town, who will be playing at the home of Spartan South Midlands League Brimsdown Rovers.

Any inquiries regarding supporters' club matters should be addressed to chairman John Mapp on 01277 624087 or 07850 754090.
