MORE than 400 people packed out East Tilbury Village Hall for a public meeting called by concerned residents into the disappearance of missing teenager Danielle Jones.

Thurrock divisional commander superintendent Ian Gruneberg reiterated appeals for information - and announced plans to site a mobile police unit in the village where people can report facts to officers.

Fifteen-year-old Danielle disappeared from her Hayle home five weeks ago on Wednesday, since when no confirmed sightings have been reported.

During the course of the meeting, called by a new group calling itself The Friends and Neighbours of Danielle Jones, officers were told the tightly knit community was becoming increasingly anxious - and faced fresh demands to release additional information.

Danielle's parents, Linda and Tony, were not present - but organiser Jackie Stephens, whose home backs onto theirs, said she had spoken with them to obtain their permission before proceeding.

Residents called on police to involve the public in wideranging searches of the area - something Mr Gruneberg said was a possibility in the future.
