COMMUTERS are set for further transport chaos after union leaders upped the pressure on train operator c2c by announcing a 48 hour walkout.

The two day strike is expected to effectively wipe out services on the line for a three day period from midday on Monday August 6.

News of the strike comes days after the Rail Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) staged a one day strike on the Shoebury line into London in protest against driver only trains.

The union claim plans to banish conductors on trains will jeopardise passenger and staff safety.

But c2c has hit back at the announcement and also threatened to oppose the union if it decided to ballot its members across the country for more strikes.
