Braintree BMX Club hosted Round Seven of the East Anglia BMX Summer series on Sunday with 109 riders taking part.

The introduction of the electronic start system and freshly tarmaced start hill contributed to a slick and highly successful meeting for the club.

Five of their 23 riders took maximum points in some extremely exciting racing with many others using their local track knowledge to good effect.

In the younger novice races, David Burnet took three wins including his final with Finn Lewis taking a final fifth place.

In the older group, Rael Turnell looked impressive with four wins with Matthew Barrier close behind in third in the final.

Tom Hall took all fifth places in the under six year olds and James Humphrey rode well to a fourth in his final of the eight year olds.

Combining the nine and 10 year olds, Ashley Hall took a win in the B final with Bradley Watts in a good fourth place in the A final followed by Matthew Sewell.

In the combined girls races, Katie Roberts made it four out of four with Chloe Sherwood, finishing a superb third, but winning her younger girls' class.

Novice Laura Dominic rode with more experienced girls to finish seventh in her final and, returning to racing after 14 years, Paul Bennett won all his races. The 11 year olds saw Liam Sherwood hotly contesting places to finish second in the final with Danny Bateman in sixth from Matt Humphrey in seventh.

The battle of the 12 year olds saw James Barker force his way past Steven Sewell on the final berm to take third place with Steven fourth.

Confirming his dominance in the 13 year olds, Jonathan Roberts took another set of straight victories and in the 14 year olds, Matt Barker took a heat win and an excellent victory in his fiercely-fought final.

Racing in two classes, Kevin Sherwood rode his best ever meeting on his Cruiser to take four brilliant wins with a fourth place in the final of his 25 plus group on the smaller bike.

The ever spectacular 17 plus races saw Darren Eastall settle for fourth in his B final and Ryan Everitt tried hard in the A final but was forced back into fifth place with Alex Humphrey taking seventh after some good heat performances.

The final round of the series was scheduled for August 5 at Dunstable but set backs in completion of their track means an alternative venue has yet to be confirmed.
