Rochford beat the weather-decimated programme to defeat their title rivals at the top of the Sirco Southend Evening Cricket League.

The club outplayed leaders Eastwood to draw level on points at the top after restricting their foes to just 88-5 off 12 overs. Birks had top-scored with 36 for Eastwood, but Bird (53) led Rochford to 89-1 in just 7.5 overs.

Rayleigh Fairview had mixed fortunes, easily beating Aviation but then losing out to Post Office. Simpson (41) led the way as Fairview hit 91-4 in reply to Aviation's 90-3.

But the club lost to the Postmen when they could only muster 75-5 in response to Post Office's 80-6. Russell Sheerman scored 25 not out for Fairview, while Tony Bates took 3-19 for Post Office, who also benefited from a knock of 15 from Robert Johnston.
