A woman has mysteriously died while on holiday in Spain.
Laura Davies, 32, of Compton Road, St Anne's, Colchester, had gone on a canyoning holiday with her mother.
The trip involved wading, swimming and scrambling over rocks in a canyon near Barcelona.
She was last seen by her mother swimming in a part of the holiday area but then went missing.
Police were called and carried out a search of the canyon. They discovered her body and recovered it from the waters on July 7.
er body was then returned to Britain where a post mortem examination was carried out a Colchester General Hospital last Wednesday.
But the cause of death was not discovered and further inquiries are being conducted.
Miss Davies had worked in the printing services unit at Essex University for some years.
Her fiance Chris Lewes worked in the same department.
Andrew Nightingale, director of estate management at the university, said: "The whole university community is distressed to have lost Laura in such tragic circumstances. She was always cheerful and helpful.
"Laura came into contact with all university departments and was a popular and well liked member of staff."
The Essex coroner was informed of Miss Davies' death and an inquest has been opened and adjourned.
