One of the most popular annual events in Dovercourt has again attracted thousands of people and raised thousands of pounds.

The fete on Saturday at the Harwich Hospital in Main Road, Dovercourt, was organised by Harwich and District Fellowship for the Sick and nearly £10,000 went into the kitty to be used to buy new equipment.

The attraction was described by organisers as a "great community event".

Thousands of people turned out in fine weather to visit the stalls and displays, take part in rides, enjoy ice cream and other refreshments and much more.

Holidaymakers and even some people from a cruise ship, which had moored at Harwich Port, were among the huge crowds.

Money raised from the day came to a toal of £9,265. Some will go to a new ECG machine for the hospital and new equipment.

One of the organisers Barry Smith said: "It went very well indeed. We were amazed at the community spirit of people who turned up. The weather was perfect and the atmosphere was great. It was a really good day."
