Fire chiefs warned vandals to stop setting fire to bins before a serious incident occurs.
Following a spate of 11 bin fires in the last week Basildon's station commander Olly Holford said: "A simple act of vandalism like setting fire to a bin could soon have a much more serious consequence.
"These people do not stop to consider the fact they could be potentially threatening someone's well-being."
