It is the height of the cycle racing season and the Shaftesbury CC are more than holding their own in the area and its riders are covering all branches across the spectrum, from juniors to veterans.

Grant Lampiere has taken part in two Ironman Triathlons and finished in both.

A tremendous achievement, and hopefully, other triathletes in the area will be taking notice and joining him to make up a team in the not-too-distant future.

In the Wednesday evening 10 mile tt's on the Blackmore course, the Shaftesbury have had 40 riders competing regularly and are now two-thirds of the way through the competition.

In the scratch section Bruce Robinson is leading with 100 points, second is Dan Turner with 68 points and Grant Lampiere, third, with 56 points.

The handicap section is headed by Kevin Youell with 447 points, second is Ian O'Neill with 419 points and Bruce Robinson, third, with 408 points.

The juniors are fighting out a very keenly contested series with Simon Wells with 346 points, Cheryl Larsen with 340 points and Matt Wells with 196 points. Matt will have to try harder for Karina Larsen is snapping at his heels with 196 points.

The Club 30 miles was held on the Bishops' Stortford course recently and ever improving Brian Hayes won the event and was fastest veteran with 1.12.47.

Brian has just recently recorded a personal best of 56.06 at 25 miles after a break of 30 years from competitions.

Grant Lampiere was second and fifth handicap with 1.1254 with Ian O'Neill, third and third handicap in 1.14.01.

Other times were P Rogers, 1.16.02, Wayne Greve, 1.18.04, Martin Wheeler 1.18.55, Paul Bolton, 1.23.39, Paul Austin, 1.33.28 and second handicap, Derek Stagg 1.34.53 and Ray Nurse 1.37.07.

In the ladies event Sue Hyde recorded 1.27.45 and Cathy Reed 1.32.27.

The juniors were flying again and Simon Wells set a new junior male record with 1.19.42 taking first junior award and first handicap whilst Cheryl Larsen set a new junior female record with 1.23.21 taking fourth handicap.

These two now have broken five junior club records each this season.

In the same area, the seniors were riding the ECCA 100 miles event and Bruce Robinson, riding his first event at this distance recorded a fantastic four hours 14 minutes with Terry Anderson putting in his usual sterling performance with four hours 23 minutes.

Howard Baker rode well to record five hours six minutes and they set a new Veterans Team Record. The winner was Zak Carr, riding his first 100 miles event in an astonishing three hours 48 minutes.
