A school on special measures is celebrating a glowing report from Government inspectors.

The Barstable School in Basildon was visited by a team from Ofsted which concluded that the school was continuing to improve in almost every aspect.

Jonathan Oddy, headmaster at the school in Timberlog Close, said: "We have taken special measures and made it work. We saw this as a chance of a new beginning and have taken advantage of all the help on offer."

The inspectors will visit the school at least three times in the next year and the school is hopeful that, if it keeps up the good work, it can gradually move out of the special measures category.

Mr Oddy said: "This is the third successful visit in a year and it is pleasing that the inspectors confirm we are improving.

There is still a long way to go but we are on the right road."
