Martijn Reuser believes former team-mate Finidi George would prove an explosive addition to the Ipswich Town squad.

Blues boss George Burley has ended days of speculation by confirming the identity of his mystery international target.

A fee - thought to be around £4m - has been agreed with Spanish club Real Mallorca for the Nigerian, although the midfielder himself has denied knowledge of any bid.

Burley is now discussing personal terms with George's agent in the hope he can persuade the former African Nations Cup winner to join the ranks at Portman Road.

Ipswich midfielder Reuser played with George at Ajax and both were with the Dutch giants when they won the European Cup in 1995.

Reuser said: "Finidi is an excellent all-round team player with incredible pace and technique

"He passes the ball very well, can score goals and has a naturally strong physique.

"He's certainly one of the best players in Nigeria and I've got nothing but good things to say about him.

"On top of that, he's a really nice guy and I'm sure he'd settle in well and be a useful addition to our squad."

Thirty-year-old George - also being tracked by Atletico Madrid - signed a three-year contract with Mallorca last summer after joining from Real Betis for £2.5m.

Known for his pace and outrageous goal celebrations, he has won nearly 50 caps for Nigeria and played at the 1994 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Reuser has commented on Ipswich's pre-season tour of Finland and Estonia. He scored a penalty against Tampere United and a free-kick against FC Flora and said: "I was quite pleased with my performance and happy with the way the team played.

"We were up against some decent sides who are already halfway through their season but the results tell their own story.

"We need to improve our fitness but we're certainly on schedule for the new season."
