The village of Good Easter is holding a special celebration this Sunday.

The community is celebrating the opening of its millennium play area after two year fundraising effort.

In September 1999 the Good Easter Sports Field Committee launched a £5,000 project to create the play area at the suggestion of local residents to provide more facilities for children in the village.

The scheme won £4,800 from the National Lotteries Awards for All scheme to buy a multiplay climbing unit and safety base and other fundraising efforts in the community were held including bazaars, auctions, and Valentine's Balls.

"We also had support from Stansted Airport of £500 and just reecenlty £300 form the Essex Community Foundation which has enabled us to buy new football goals," said chairman Brenda Cross.

To show appreciation for all the support an opening ceremony and free tea party for all Good Easter residents, children and grandchildren will take place from 3pm to 5pm.

The children will be asked to help create a millennium garden by planting shrubs and there will be a chance to hand paint a stone which will then be set in the garden area for future generations to enjoy.

There will also be a new grass tennis court and a five-a-side football pitch.
