A man of 62 who claimed he took drugs because of ill health has been jailed for 15 months.

As well as becoming an addict to amphetamine, George McLean supplied a circle of friends with the class B drug, Basildon Crown Court heard.

McLean pleaded guilty to possessing the drug with intent to supply.

Prosecutor Ashley Thain said when police swooped on McLean's home in Adelaide Road, Tilbury, he admitted having drugs in his pocket.

A search of the property revealed drugs hidden under the stairs.
