It was a free parking ticket bonanza for motorists as this meter experienced a malfunction.
The parking meter in Western Esplanade, Westcliff, proved to be in a generous mood as it spewed out a long reel of tickets in one fell swoop.
But honesty must prevail among Southend motorists as the tickets were left blowing in the breeze.
A Southend Council spokeswoman said the incident had not been reported, but it would be investigating
She added: "It is unlikely the tickets would be valid because the machine allocates time using the money being paid in."
